在新石器时代中晚期的文化遗址中发现了更多的陶制动物雕塑作品。仰韶文化的半坡遗址出土有狗首鸟尾的陶塑器柄。湖北天门出土的湖北龙山文化时期的一群人与动物陶塑,数量众多,除羊、狗、鸡等家畜家禽外,还有大象和乌龟。这些随手捏成的小陶塑,能够表现动物活动中的神态。如狗和鸟的动作变化很多,有的扭首伫立,有的回头仰望,有的低头觅食,有的狗背上还栖着一只鸟。新石器时代,在定居农业的环境中,南北各地普遍饲养着猪、羊、牛、狗、马、鸡等六畜。雕塑作者在狩猎和豢养家畜的活动中,通过长期观察,熟悉各种动物的特征与习性。因而地,这些作品虽形体简单,但特点鲜明,动态生动。 More pottery animal sculptures have been found in the cultural sites of the middle and late Neolithic age.
